The Lord started calling and preparing us to be adoptive parents even before we married. Anna felt drawn to care for orphans after a mission trip to Pune, India the summer after her freshman year of college. She pursued that desire even further by going to graduate school at Baylor University to get her master’s in social work. She always had the intention of working for an adoption agency and has loved working for Lifeline ever since she graduated.Jesse felt drawn to care for orphans when he was in grade school. His oldest half-brother was adopted into his family, and he encountered other families in his community who had been put together through adoption.
God was planting the seed for our family to adopt even before Anna and I met. We have always wanted to have a large family that was made up of both adopted and biological children. We decided we wanted to start our family in January of 2015 and tried to have a biological child. However, God did not see fit to follow “our plans.” In September of 2015, we decided to submit an application to Lifeline to adopt. We were not daunted by the struggle to get pregnant on our own timeline – adoption was not our Plan B. Just two months after we submitted our application to begin the adoption process, Anna became pregnant. We were surprised and overjoyed, and in August of 2016, our son Hall was born!
We have had a few “bumps” along the way in the midst of this adoption process, but the Lord has been so faithful through it all. We have been “expecting” this adopted child for almost 2 years now and could not be more delighted for this process to be coming to an end. We hope to bring home a little girl from Colombia this September. We are confident that God will give us the resources, wisdom, and energy to complete our adoption and parent our daughter in a way that will be glorifying to His kingdom.
